A major 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck near the Peru-Brazil border Tuesday night, rumbling some 600 kilometers below the surface. The deep tremor shook a sparsely populated area near Iberia, Peru, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Reports of damage or injuries were not readily available, and no tsunami was expected from the event.
