Three New York men sought to join Islamic State, FBI says

The FBI has arrested three foreign nationals living in Brooklyn who agents say sought to join the Islamic State. Two of the men had threatened to kill police officers and FBI agents in the US if they were unable to travel to Syria, the FBI said. The men came to the authorities' attention after they posted to Uzbek-language websites in recent months.

ISIS abducts at least 90 from Christian villages in Syria

Islamic State militants have abducted at least 90 people from Assyrian Christian villages in northeastern Syria, a monitoring group that tracks violence in Syria said on Tuesday. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the militants carried out dawn raids on rural villages inhabited by the ancient Christian minority west of Hasaka, a city mainly held by the Kurds.

U.S. FDA issues device safety alert following "superbug" outbreak

The complex design of endoscopes that have been linked to a "superbug" outbreak at the UCLA Health System in California may hinder proper cleaning, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned on Thursday.

At least 8 individuals have been monitored for Ebola in Nebraska

Phil Rooney, public information officer for the county, told KETV NewsWatch 7 on Monday that at least eight other individuals who had recently traveled in West Africa were monitored in Nebraska since last fall. Researchers are worried after discovering a new strain of HIV in Cuba that progresses to Aids twice as fast as the average strain of the disease, leaving those infected with a preciously shorter window in which to seek treatment.

The strain – which is actually a mix of three subtypes of human immunodeficiency virus – can progress to Aids within three years if left untreated, according to reports. The average HIV strain advances to Aids in six to 10 years.

Federal Judge Stalls Obama's Executive Action on Immigration

A federal judge in South Texas on Monday temporarily blocked President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration, giving a coalition of 26 states time to pursue a lawsuit that aims to permanently stop the orders.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen's decision comes after a hearing in Brownsville in January and puts on hold Obama's orders that could spare as many as five million people who are in the U.S. illegally from deportation.
